Katy Perry, Joel McHale Try to Vote While Naked in Funny or Die Video

February 2024 · 2 minute read

As election day (Nov. 8) inches closer, more and more prominent figures are speaking out about the importance of voting — especially in this election. The most recent promotional plea comes from Katy Perry, who is the subject of a new Funny or Die video.

The video sees Perry wake up looking like a mess — channeling a bit of her look from “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” save for the glasses and headgear. Here, she’s wearing American flag pajamas while she proceeds to tell viewers that it’s completely acceptable to roll out of bed and get to the nearest polling place to vote in whatever condition you wake up.

She runs through a variety of sleep-inspired looks, from “child’s onesie” and “hunk in kid’s briefs,” to “free XL T-shirt you got from your bank” or “the breakout.” Though the best look of all comes from Perry herself, who tears off her pajamas in one swift motion — “Or,” she says, “If you’re like me, I sleep naked.”

As the cops haul her away, she lands in the backseat of a police car next to comedian Joel McHale, a fellow indecent exposure suspect. As the video comes to an end, Perry has not one but two important messages: Get to the polls on Nov. 8, and don’t show up naked.
