Hey Rosetta! Energizes Audiences - Celebmix

May 2024 · 2 minute read

Newfoundland band Hey Rosetta! is a seven piece shot of energy and indie rock led by a masterful lyricist in Tim Baker. I got the chance to hear them in the tight DC9 Nightclub in Washington D.C., and the little dive could not contain the electricity of their live show.

You would expect a group from cold, little St. John’s, Newfoundland, an olde english fishing town in Canada, to know a thing or two about catharsis. But what’s surprising about this band is how smoothly and quickly they crescendo into uplifting, massive-sounding ballads.

Entering with soft lonely chords, the iconic voice of Tim Baker reminds you how special life really is, like a Canadian Bob Dylan. Then half way through almost every song, you’ll find yourself rocking out to a cello, violin and tambourine like never before. Every song leaves you with the sense that the world isn’t all that bad.

Justin Bieber isn’t the only Canadian that can party. Hey Rosetta is on the tail end of a world tour. Their latest album Second Sight was rated a 4 out of 5 by Sputnik Music. And favorites like Yer Fall and Welcome have become canonical indie anthems from their second studio album, the Polaris Music Prize Shortlisted, Seeds.

The last three American tour dates begin November 1st in Los Angeles.
