4KQ surges in latest radio ratings at Novas expense

Nova 106.9 has been bumped from both breakfast and overall ratings dominance in a major shakeup of the Brisbane radio field in the latest survey results.

AM music station 4KQ surged from third place in the last survey to take out top spot in Breakfast this time round, with more listeners tuning in to Mark Hine, Laurel Edwards and Gary Clare.

In overall figures, B105 surged to take the lead, with the FM music station recording 11.9 points, up 0.8 from survey 1 last month.

In both key categories, Nova has been relegated from the top spot, after their long-running Breakfast team of Ash, Kip, Luttsy and Susie won four surveys in a row since surveys resumed following extended COVID lockdowns last year.

Indications that Nova’s lead was faltering did come in the last survey, when it went from 13 points to 11.3, while in this survey it lost more ground, dropping to 10.6.

B105 also took out second spot in the Breakfast race, with ABC Brisbane and Triple M 104.5 taking out the fourth and fifth spots, with 10.4 and 10.2 respectively, both slightly down on the previous survey.

Neil Breen’s breakfast show on 4BC, owned by Nine, the publisher of this masthead, dropped slightly to 7.2, slotting into seventh place behind 4KQ’s FM stablemate 97.3 on 9.7.

In terms of the battle for the AM dial, 4KQ was the clear winner, with second spot overall, compared with its news-talk rivals 4BC on just six points and the ABC with eight.
